Reader’s Question:
Can you own a vehicle that will not be driven such as parts car without insurance on it in the Hollywood, Florida?

Hollywood, FL
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles states that if you own a car with at least 4 wheels and are registering it, you must have FL car insurance. Therefore all registered vehicles in Florida require Florida car insurance.
Since a parts car is not likely to be registered it may be possible to keep this inoperable vehicle without insuring if it is not being used and if it is kept off of public highways and if your county permits it. According to the HSMV site some counties in FL require that all cars remain registered, if this is the case in your area in Hollywood, Florida then you will need to keep the vehicle registered and insured.
You may also contact the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to find out for sure if you are able to keep an inoperable vehicle (parts car) without having it registered or insured.
