What is The Fee For Florida Car Insurance Lapse

Reader’s Question:

How much is the fee for lapse in car insurance for Florida?

Daytona Beach, FL

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles matches a registration to information it receives from every insurance provider. If your car is not insured you should be notified, but it does not always happen.

If you fail to keep auto insurance on your car that is registered in FL, the FL Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is authorized to suspend your drivers license, including your car registration and vehicle tag, for up to 3 years or until proof of Florida car insurance is shown, whichever is first.

If your drivers license is suspended because you are not properly insured there may be a penalty to reinstate your drivers license. A reinstatement fee of $150 to $500, for subsequent infractions, is due and you must provide proof of current Florida car insurance.
